It Was A Good Year
I am writing you from the desk in my bedroom in Missouri. My daughter and I got back from Haiti three weeks ago. My husband, last week. It was the trip I had been longing to take since Nelinah’s birth back in May of 2024. Things finally seemed to settle enough where we could visit family without running in to any gangs, so we took the leap and went.
I loved everything about being in Haiti as a family of three (except the high transportation cost that came with it)! It only made me long all the more to move back to Haiti. But that is a plan for the distant future, since everything that we own is now in gang territory.
While most of the ministry activities took place after we were safely back in the US, I did get to see the church building progress, visit family, see a few of our sponsor students, and meet with our Haitian volunteers.
There Is Room For Everyone In The Mission
Hands on ministry for sure manke’m (“is missing from me”, thanks French (; ). But I am slowly learning to be content helping the mission advance from the states. Being in the US for this long span of time has allowed me to network more and meet so many great people who have joined the mission and caught the vision of what Espwa Demen is all about.
This year I had the opportunity to share about our mission in front of two church congregations as well as one on one a handful of times. These were opportunities that I didn’t even seek out! God has been brining all the right people into our path. I continue to be amazed by this.
If I have learned anything over the past twelve months, it would be this, that there is room for everyone in the mission. I used to think if I was not out there, on the mission field, doing the life changing hands on work, I couldn’t be useful. However, all this time off the field, our ministry reach has only grown! Debunking that idea.
I now see all the clearer that everyone has a place in the mission. I don’t mean a roll in Espwa Demen Mission particularly, but in the mission of the Church and the Christian. To know Him and make Him known. To spread His love to the nations. To care for the widow and the orphan.
We all have an important roll to play. Whether we are stuck at home nurturing and protecting little ones, using our computer skills to advocate. Working in the workplace to give of our earnings to ministry. Or on a plane to physically bringing the gospel and the aid to the remote places. There is room for everyone!
Espwa Demen Mission’s Year
Next Year’s Greatest Need
For a while now we have been talking about purchasing a vehicle for the mission in Haiti. This year it has become an even more apparent need. During the last trip, in just three weeks, we spent over $2,000 on transportation alone! Rentals are becoming outrageous, and as more and more of our friends lose their jobs and become displaced vehicles we could have borrowed have fallen into disrepair.
While we would love to put off this need longer and use all incoming resources to help families in need. We really can’t continue the work without a mission vehicle. Getting around Haiti is the most stressful, complicated, and expensive logistic Espwa Demen faces. Without our own vehicle it is harder and harder to keep our programs running.
And so we implore all of our supporters to join hands with us to help us meet this need in 2026. Not only through donations to the Where Most Needed Fund, but through prayer (to the God of the cattle on a thousand hills!) sharing, spreading the word, and advocating in your circles. Together we will take this next step to grow our mission impact in Haiti.
For $15,000 we can purchase a 2014 SUV that is in good condition and can off-road (a MUST).
Included in this cost we will be able to build a simple carport to park it under (which will be near the airport in Cap Haitien), get it legalized, and licensed.
We hope to make the purchase in May, 2026. For this to happen we will need to raise $3,000 a month, from December until May. You can give towards this great need by choosing “where most needed” in the dropdown on the donation page.
This Year’s Christmas Program
For Christmas this year we will be partnering with the Chevri church congregation to provide food for their Christmas service. They will be inviting the whole village to attend the service where the gospel will be preached and food will be shared.
Hunger is the main concern of so many of the families in our network since the gang takeover of Mirebalais in May. We want to bless the church and their attendees with one weekend to forget their financial struggles and be built up in Christian community.
If you would like to be a part, $2,000 is our goal for this Christmas program. You can contribute by selecting “church partnership” in the dropdown on the donation page.
