Mission Update
Oh give thanks to the LORD, for He is good; for His steadfast love endures forever! - 1 CHRONICLES 16:34
Nelson is back from Haiti. His three week trip was fruitful and he accomplished most of what we had planned. We are so blessed by the support of all of you leading up to the trip as we fundraised for needs. As well as for your prayers and messages throughout the trip.
Espwa Demen Mission Vehicle
Most notably, we purchased our mission vehicle! It is a 2005 Toyota 4-Runner in good condition with around 90,000 miles. After buying it in Cap Haitien from a US seller we got it tuned up, bought new tires, had a lift kit put on to help elevate it for the rough roads, and added the mission logo on the back window.
It was tearing through the roads like a champ and we are so excited for the doors having this vehicle will open! No only will it make mission trips much easier, it will cut down on transportation costs, allow us to hold more frequent medical clinics, move equipment around, take food provisions to the church and sponsor families, and much more.
The vehicle is being stored in a covered shelter not far from our mission base. We have entrusted the keys to our field director who will only use it for mission activities when needed.
Benches Delivered to the Church
The benches we had built have been delivered to the church in Chevri. Already these have been a huge blessing to them. The benches were made by a local craftsman for way less than the normal cost out of his desire to give of his skills to the local Christian body.
Six in total. Including a table to open there Bibles on and take notes the benches are made from Haiti grown hardwood and covered with a durable poly.
These willl be a huge help to get members of the congregation off the floor on Sundays. The church of the Chevri community is still in ongoing construction of their new building. While it is slow in coming they are content to worship in their makeshift shelter for now.
Checking up on Sponsor Students
Nelson was able to visit several sponsor students. Along with paying end of year exam fees for students who are graduating, and delivering sponsor letters. The school year has ended in Haiti and will resume again at the end of September.
The Mission Well
Espwa Demen’s first well is finally complete! After some setbacks with raising material cost, hitting a rock slab after digging 100 feet, and having trouble with 2 water pumps burning up it’s done! The well is about 70 feet deep and full of fresh water. For now the community are using buckets to draw the water for use in cooking, cleaning, and bathing.
Which brings us to another need. We hope to purchase a solar powered well pump with solar panels before December to help keep the well clean and make drawing water easier for the large community. These pump kits go for about $2,000 and can be purchased in country.
You can give towards this need by choosing “community improvement” when you make a donation HERE.
Thank you all for your continued support of the mission and for your ongoing prayers! You are the reason we are able to keep going and making a difference in Haiti during these trying times for the country.
Blessings in Christ, Rachel
