He’s Leaving For Haiti - And We’re So Close
There are moments in ministry where you can feel the momentum building—all of the months of prayers, planning, meeting, and fundraising come together and you start counting down the days to take off.
This is one of those moments.
At the end of this month, Nelson will be heading to Haiti for a three-week mission trip with Espwa Demen Mission. This trip carries so much weight—not just in what needs to be done, but in what God is already doing.
And we want to invite you into it.
A Vehicle for the Mission
Since the start of the mission in 2020 one of our biggest needs has been a reliable mission vehicle—something that will allow us to move freely, safely, and consistently as we serve. With the gang invasion last spring and the constant rising costs of everything the need has become even more urgent.
After months of searching we found it! A 2008 Toyota 4Runner in good condition. Because of your generosity, $14,500 has already been raised, which will cover the purchase of this vehicle.
This is huge!
But we’re not quite finished. We still need $2,500 to:
Build a simple parking shelter to protect the vehicle
Cover licensing and legal registration
This vehicle will directly impact everything we do—from visiting communities, to transporting supplies, to responding quickly when needs arise. We’re so close to making this fully possible. You can be a part of that here.
The Well Project — Pressing Through Challenges
Our well project is another powerful testimony of perseverance.
The team dug down to 95 feet, only to hit a solid rock slab that couldn’t be breached. It was a discouraging moment—but not the end of the story.
Last month they started again in a new location. Now, at 50 feet, they’ve already begun hitting water. This is incredibly promising.
To continue, we need to send down a pump so they can remove water and keep digging deeper—ensuring access to a strong, sustainable water table that can serve the community for years to come.
So far, $4,500 has been invested into this project. Due to the unexpected challenges and rising costs, we now need an additional $2,000 to:
Line and seal the well properly
Finish paying the workers
To give to this need make a donation to the “Community Improvement” fund on our giving page.
And the original 95-foot hole? It won’t be wasted—it will be repurposed into a public latrine for the community. So although not usuable for its original purpose, nothing is lost.
Blessing the Church
We’re also excited to deliver something special to the church in Chevri. Six beautiful wooden benches have been completed by a talented local carpenter. Each bench seats about six adults.
While it won’t get everyone off the floor just yet, it’s a meaningful step—a tangible expression of love and dignity for the congregation.
These benches will be carried on the backs of willing men in the community all the way across the river and to the church. The parade will be quite the joyful sight. We can’t wait to place them inside!
Beyond the Projects
Additionally, Nelson will spend time doing what matters most:
Visiting sponsor students and their families
Comforting friends who have recently lost loved ones
Attending prayer meetings at the Chevri congregation
Delivering letters from sponsors
Helping in the garden
Connecting with family and community
He will also be researching a potential rental home near our ministry base—a space that could:
Host future mission teams
Provide consistent housing during trips
Reduce long-term logistics costs
This could be a major step forward towards sustainability for our missionary family and team.
How Could You Be A Part of All This?
This trip is full of purpose—but also full of real, immediate needs.
The full cost of flights, food, and initial transportation is coming out of our personal finances. As a couple we have always functioned this way, not fundraising for trip logistics in order to accomplish as many mission tasks as possible. God has been faithful to provide for our family time and time again.
We can get our team there, but, as far as ministry goes, nothing is possible without the help of each of you. To fully accomplish everything, we are still believing for:
$2,500 for the vehicle shelter and registration
$2,000 to complete the well project
That’s $4,500 total remaining.
Would you consider being part of what God is doing?
Every gift—big or small—moves these efforts forward and directly impacts lives.
And just as important: we need your prayers.
Pray for:
Safe travel
Wisdom and endurance
Favor in every detail
Smooth logistics
And lasting impact in every place Nelson steps
We’ve seen God provide again and again—and we believe He will continue to do so.
Thank you for standing with us. Thank you for believing in this mission.
With hope,
Nelson and Rachel Espazien
