What About Them? (current world and political events through my eyes)
If anyone knows me well, you know there are three main areas in politics that are important to me. Immigration policy, diplomatic relations, and the outlawing of abortion. I find myself in the strange position of not fitting with either of the two major political parties because both sides stand for things that contradict my beliefs and passions. I want to address abortion first, because it is there we have the most to lose.
The Current State of Abortion
Abortion. One of the most taboo topics of our time. I get a ton of pushback when I speak out on abortion from people of all walks of life. It's absolutely ridiculous to me that we even have to talk about if abortion is wrong. Our world has grown so dark that murder is openly rationalized and applauded.
Last night I found myself suddenly weeping just thinking about the injustice of it all. We send millions of dollars to help the war efforts in Israel and in Ukraine, and perhaps it is our duty to do so as an ally. But how can we care so much about the hundred of innocents dying on far off shores and not even shed a tear for the 1,026,700 abortions preformed in the US in 2023.
You read that number correctly, OVER ONE MILLION abortions were preformed last year alone! One million innocent babies. They were living human beings burned, ripped apart, or crushed and many of them FELT EVERYTHING.
The Abortion Stakes This Election
Abortion has been around for a long time, so why is it such a big deal this year? Because, we have NEVER had a candidate running for office that has loved and applauded murder on such a large scale. One that is so celebrated and supported as a hero. The citizens of America are growing more and more dark and complacent in the face of evil.
A historical event comes to mind that is being repeated in front of our eyes and we don't even see it; It is this picture of the train going by carrying jews to concentration camps during Hitlers regime. Churches along the train route would play their music louder as the train passed so as to drown out the crying and screams of the jews pleading for help.
Did you know that really happened? Shocking right?! Not really, because many Christians are doing the same thing today when it comes to abortion. Saying things like "we aren't in that poor woman's place and can't possibly understand what she is going through."
Yes, that is true. We weren't in Hitler's place either. But it didn't matter that he had a rough childhood. It didn't matter that he was abused by his father, afraid of his mother, not allowed to express his feelings or opinions, and mentally disturbed. It didn't matter if we were in his shoes, because looking back no one is saying poor Hitler. All that we see is the pure evil of his hate crimes, against jews, homosexuals, people of color, and the disabled. You know why it doesn't matter? Because his depravity did not condone the committing of those atrocities.
Left versus right or Republican verses Democrat is NOT the issue here. Parties aside, Mrs. Harris is not only inhuman but literally wielding a demonic force. She is a puppet in the hands of Satan leading the masses into the darkness. If she becomes the leader of this country she will continue to fight for death and murder. After all her "DREAM" is to make the murder of innocents, for any reason, at any time, accessible and paid for by your tax dollars.
"And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed."
John 3:19-21
When you tuck your child into bed tonight, think of the millions of children whose bodies have been tucked into a trash bag like some sort of worthless waste to be thrown away.
These babies have value too. What about them?
The Anti-Immigrant Population
There is a lot to be said about immigration policy but the main issue is not so much with the laws, although they could for sure use some reform, but the heart issue of immigrant hatred by a certain population in the United States. Stereotyping of outsiders and the entitlement mentality of many Americans leads to this hatred.
The idea that if you were blessed to be born in America you are just better than your fellow man and deserve more respect and a better life than them is just arrogant. Being born in America is a gift. Long before you or I were born our ancestors immigrated here, therefore making us all the children of immigrants. Because of our ancestors courage and determination to become immigrants, seeking out a better life, we are able to enjoy the freedoms that we have today.
Another point to address is that all immigrants are NOT ILLEGAL, so they should not be treated as such. Yet many people view very legal migrants the same as those who did not come here through the legal channels. In fact, when my husband was awaiting his green-card approval I was actually asked by several people "why doesn't he just walk over the border with all those other illegals".
The treatment of legal immigrants, among other things, goes to show that for many people it is not a matter of hating migrants for breaking the law or committing crimes (thought they try to say it is), but just because they were not born here. The whole ridiculous situation that happened in Springfield Ohio is another example of this anti-immigrant mentality.
Not surprisingly, many people did not need to see facts to believe that Haitian immigrants would be going around eating people's pets. So many immediately jumped on Trump's bandwagon of mass deportation. While we know that most, if not all, of the influx of immigrants in that area came here legally through the new(ish) humanitarian parole program. In my understanding the deportation of LEGAL immigrants is not something our immigration law allows. With that in mind, saying "let's deport them" denotes the idea that they are here illegally.
God's Love For The Immigrant
"I was eyes to the blind, and feet to the lame. I was a father to the needy, and I championed the cause of the stranger. I broke the fangs of the unrighteous, and made them drop their prey from their teeth." Job 29:15-17
"The Lord watches over the strangers; he upholds the orphan and the widow, but the way of the wicked he brings to ruin." Psalm146:9
"For if you truly amend your ways and your doings, if you truly act justly one with another, if you do not oppress the alien, the orphan, and the widow, or shed innocent blood in this place, and if you do not go after other gods to your own hurt, then I will dwell with you in this place, in the land that I gave of old to your ancestors forever and ever." Jeremiah 7:5-7
"Thus says the Lord of hosts: Render true judgments, show kindness and mercy to one another; do not oppress the widow, the orphan, the alien, or the poor; and do not devise evil in your hearts against one another." Zechariah 7:9-10
"I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me." Matthew 25:35
"You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself." Luke 10:27
"Then Peter began to speak to them: “I truly understand that God shows no partiality, but in every nation anyone who fears him and does what is right is acceptable to him." Acts 10:34
"Contribute to the needs of the saints; extend hospitality to strangers." Romans 12:13
The verses showing God's love for the stranger and immigrant are endless! These are just a few of the many. When you talk about immigrants negatively or lump individual people into stereotypes, think about God's love for these people. And His plan to one day create a perfect kingdom comprised of people of all nations and tribes and languages together as one people in unity.
These migrants are made in the image of God too. What about them?
Is The Solution Open Borders?
No, the solution is not open borders. Or a free for all immigration system. However, in many cases if the legal pathway for upstanding citizens; especially form broken, poor, and war torn countries was made a more straightforward and timely process the amount of illegal immigration from these countries would go down significantly. Opening up more seasonal work visa programs with countries currently not on the list would go a long way also with encouraging legal immigration.
Family visas should always be prioritized, especially ahead of visitor, student, and fiancè visa categories. But often they are not. Currently the processing time for a spousal visa in Haiti is, on average, three years. This is only an average, many times the reality is longer. I can attest that forcibly being apart from your husband, wife, or children for that amount of time is difficult beyond explanation. Understandably, many people in this process become impatient with the waiting and seek other, less legal, ways to get to the US faster.
How can the issue of wait times be fixed? It can be fixed in a fashion that will at the same time create more jobs for US citizens (something that the anti-immigrant population likes complaining about - Immigrants "stealing" American jobs). Hiring more immigration officers to get through paperwork faster and more efficiently would be a game changer.
The process to obtain work permission for existing visa holders also needs an upgrade. It is a long process, resulting in legal immigrants working under the table. If work permission cards came with the visa instead of requiring a separate application to file this would allow migrants to seek employment right away upon entering the US. How can we expect someone to come here and then sit for months waiting for the permission to work with no money? It's not feasible.
I hear so much complaint about migrants receiving government handouts. I cannot prove this, in fact some recent friends from Haiti have not received any such government funds, but, even if it were true. This issue is one of our own creation. If you are expecting someone from a very poor country to live in the US for months before being allowed to work, then it is a given that funds for food and housing has to come from somewhere. Most would LOVE to work and be productive in their new environment but again the government prevents this.
Diplomatic Relations With Haiti
There has recently been a large influx of Haitian migrants in the US, cities like Springfield, Boston, and New York have absorbed the bulk of this new population. Who are here legally by the way. This influx is due to the dire situation in Haiti.
Armed gangs are in total control of major roads, hospitals, and ports. People are starving, out of work, unable to go to school in many areas, and have limited access to medical care. Many, therefore, are looking for a pathway to the US. To a life that they hear is safe, comfortable, and offers all sorts of opportunity. It's understandable.
But you know what? Many, if not most, of these migrants would LOVE to see their country change and be able to stay and make a life there instead. It may be hard for a lot of Americans to believe, but life in the United States is not a fun or easy one for many immigrants. Haitians I know hate it here! They long for home, they talk about home, they dream of one day going home.
They can't. Partially because of their own corrupt system, but largely because of the corrupt involvement of larger countries in their government since the beginning. I won't get into all that but just know that the US had a major roll to play in putting Haiti into the situation it is in now. And you know what? Our government is also playing a major roll in preventing Haiti's restoration to peace!
If the US seriously wanted to lessen the amount of Haitians coming here, they could put their time and efforts into restoring Haiti's security, stopping the smuggling of illegal weapons to Haiti from the US, and then remove their monetary backing out of the pockets of the top gang leaders.
If the relationship with Haiti becomes mutually beneficial and they are no longer being taken advantage of by their "allies", then many Haitians can go home to a happy and safe life. The life they prefer in their own countries.
Closing Thoughts
This has been a LONG post, so thank you for reading! There are no simple answers when it comes to US politics and policies. However, I believe we are responsible to be informed and make informed choices. Sometimes that might mean making some people angry. Sometimes it might be choosing a side or refusing to associate with either. It will most definitely get you some unfollows.
Yet, none of that matters. Because at the end of the day, I want to be able to say that I stood for those who cannot stand for themselves. I defended the innocent babies being slaughtered for convenience. I loved my neighbor well and welcomed the stranger in as if they were Christ.
